I found a Monark bicycle today at a local swap meet . dont know anything about monarks thought it was nice looking and picked it up .. the markings on it say Monark sun valley . Girls bike is this considered a balloon tire or a middle weight? will try and post pictures along with it ..
im looking for a year and where to find the serial number?

thanks alot for the tips about gettin the rust off the paint i was most worried about that bc for right now i want to keep whats left of the original paint until i put my schwinn back to the original paint sceme .

It doesnt really matter if you pay too much for something if it is something you like and enjoy. You should be able to remove a lot of the rust on the chrome parts with fine steel wool and an automotive past wax like Turtle wax. The paste wax should remove a lot of the rust from the painted parts also only I would use a cloth rag and not the steel wool there.

thanks alot :) do you know where i can check the serial number codes? . i didnt pay much for it at all actually ill be cleaning it up get the lights to work and ride it all over

Your bike is mid 1950~s. I have a 1957 boy~s bike similar to yours. It is a middleweight (26 x 1.75 tires). The serial number will be on the left rear dropout (look next to the rear hub brake arm). Not a bad bike - hope you didn~t pay too much for it!
