Question, I live here in Michigan City, Indiana. Home of Excelsior MFG. Co. and from my research I~ve discovered operated from the early 1900~s up until the late 1950~s. I have many documents and pictures to back this up.
I have always understood that the Excelsiors made by schwinn were a completely different company and had absolutely nothing to do with each other. I know some former employees that will back this up. However I came across something on ebay this morning that doesn~t make sense to me, An Excelsior headbadge that is made to the specs and same look as the Michigan City Excelsior... but, reads "Excelsior MFD by Excelsior Supply Co. Chicago, U.S.A." instead of "Excelsior MFG. Co. Michigamn City, In"
I~ve been collecting My home town bikes for sometime now and this is the first "Chicago" headbadge I~ve seen, and I~ve seen alot of Excelsior headbadges both Schwinn and the other. and info or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a very old bicycle with a headbadge that identifies it as a DeLuxe (in large script) mfd by Excelsior Bicycle Co. Michigan City, Indiana (in sub script) It has wooden wheels, twin top tube frame, I~ve been told it was made between 1910-1920

In their brands list, the Wheelmen
list _seven_ different makers of bikes named Excelsior prior to 1918, including Schwinn and the Excelsior Cycle Co of Chicago (not Cycle Supply), and none of them is in Indiana. They would want to hear from you if you can add to their list.
Let us know what you find out.
