I have 2 war time era Schwinn Cycle Trucks. Neither are complete. One has a number of bad repaints. The other is original black paint with gold pinstripe. They are both the old style frame. One had the crank intact, and it has a stamped "43" on it, so I assume 1943. The other, black one, has just the frame and wheels. I want to retore one back to as close to original as possible. What I am thinking is redoing the 1943 in its original blue colour, with powdercoating. It has wood pedal blocks, and also apparently had wood handgrips, but there was no handlebar on it when I got it. The stem is not correct, but it did come out ok so the fork and steer tube are salvagable. My questions are: Which parts were chrome? What about the wheels? One set has black hubs and rust rims (rusted but not beyond use). I dont think they were ever chrome. The other set looks black to me, again not chrome (but I havent cleaned these up yet, could be decades of grime). What~s the best thing to do with the wheels to make them look good but keep them original looking?

I meant to say, the rims are painted and striped, not plated.

I have a wartime Cycle-Truck, all original. Black hubs, wooden pedal blocks, wooden grips, painted fenders, painted frame (blue) painted and striped, large flange front hub. The handlebars and gooseneck may have been chrome plated, but if they were all the plating has flaked off. I don~t see any signs of paint on the handlebars or stem.

Try the "Bunch O bikes".com site. That guy is a cycletruck expert. Try the Schwinn forums,as well. Someone there will have your info. Good Luck

Maybe painting the rims black? I dont want to chrome them if they were never chrome. I am going to take the wheels apart and clean them up. Serial number on the one I think is 1943 is B29286 and the other unknown year (but old style frame still) I37789
