Posted by: ChadB TITLE: AGE / VALUE: Western Flyer Ladies Bike
I~m curious as to what year this old Western Flyer is. Under the crank housing, the number reads 19-5557. I~m guessing it~s from the 50~s, but not sure.

I~ve seen pictures of ~57 and later Western Flyers, and none of them have the curvy looking rear rack mine does. That, and the location of the frame #, make me think it~s OLDER than ~57. Could that 19-5557 make it a ~55 model?

Yes, it could. I haven~t seen any codes for their numbers- maybe you~ve deciphered it. I agree the rack appears 55ish. I was guessing, mind you.

i also have the esact same bike. my rack is a lil different though. it has decals that immitate the wings of 57 chevy. but the color is the same. ive been told western flyer lost all there records in a fire. and that a lot of serial numbers were reused because they were made in different places

I got an old western flyer that my gandpa gave me a while back and I can~t find the cereal number on it and wanted to find out how much it would cost. All I know about it is it~s from about the late 50~s mabe early 60~s. I think he said it was a girls bike

I like your guess, ChadB. I would say ~57-58 plus or minus. It~s a Murray, from just before they put the distinctive point on their rear dropouts. That~s a nice bike, probably Western Auto~s luxury model of that year for girls. The pedals look exactly like the ones they put on Flightliners and the like.

I bought a Western auto bike like the one in the pic, just a little different. I paid $75 at a flea market. It has a new seat on it and looks as if maybe someone has repainted it, but it in great shape. Just wondering if I made a mistake buying it.
