Currently restoring a 1966 Schwinn Starlet III. This is a ladies bike with a tank in the frame. The Delta horn inside the tank, takes 2 ~D~ cell batteries and is not functioning. Either the contacts and/or diaphragm inside the horn are stuck. I saw a post somewhere about how to open the horn and clean it but now I can~t locate the information. And, my Delta horn is held together with rivets, not screws, so opening it might be somewhat destructive. Does anyone have experience cleaning and refurbishing these Delta horns? Anyone have a functioning horn for sale? The rest of the hardware; battery holder, button, switch contacts, etc. are still serviceable. Of course N.O.S. replacements are always great! On a related topic - the bike has a large globe headlight which I~ve yet to get open. The closing screw seems to be rusted in tight and the lens is gone. I don~t know if the headlight took ~D~ cell batteries (4?,more?) or a six volt of some sort. It takes one small bulb. I~d like to convert the light to an LED configuration - has anyone rigged such a light conversion before? Any info on the Delta tank horn and headlight will be appreciated.
