Posted by: Anthony Matthews TITLE: AGE / VALUE: Unknown Age of a B.F. Goodrich
I have an old B.F. Goodrich bicycle. The frame plate says, "Challenger", and the chain guard says "Vanguard 2(in Roman Numerals). I have had the bicycle since I was atleast 10 or so, I am currently 26. I used to ride it all over and can still air up the same tires and ride it now for a short time before the air starts letting out. I was given the bicycle by my great uncle. I am seeking more information on it pertaining to the value and the age of it. I have taken down the following markings from the frame.
Back Left Dropout: In sequence of how it is stamped

MO7 .10x8 433540

Front Left Fork: Top of Flat Portion

M in a circle

Rear Wheel Brand: Kome 1
Super

Rear Wheel Hub Markings: F&S J
KOME 1
Super
161 36

I am seeking any and all information. The paint is starting fade off quite a bit but has never been repainted. It still has its maroon paint on most of it though. It does have both fenders in good shape with the rear one with the reflector intact. If you could help me that would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I do not have any pictures yet. I will try to get some soon. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Anthony Matthews

I had a prewar BF Goodrich, it was a cleveland welding bike, specifically a rebadged Western Flyer.
Most of the time its easiest to get an idea of the age of the bike by its vendor supplied parts, so apicture is the most valuable thing you can give us.

I meant, balloon or middleweight.
I was thinking the number format looked like Murray, but I wouldn~t bet. Does anyone know of another maker with a dozen-digit serial like that?
Meanwhile, Anthony, better get some pictures going.
