I worked at Columbia from 1979-1981 and my father Jack Kowal ran the Columbia museum through the 90~s until 3 years ago. You will have to check out my website on Columbia Bikes and their history VintageColumbiaBikes.com (MrColumbia)

Thanks for the info. I love to ride bikes but I am not really a collector so my next questions are what is the value? By the way, I grew up in Westfield and my 3 oldest brothers worked at Columbia in the 70~s and I worked there for one summer in the 80~s. I was working there when they made the reproduction bike with the certificates.

It looks just like my bike. I have a 1945. I have pictures of it on the balloon tire society web site

You are correct. It is a 47 Columbia Superb. Besides the serial number, the design on the front of the front fender and bottom of the rear fender are unique for 1947.
It~s a very nice dumpster find.
