Posted by: Keith Meier TITLE: AGE / VALUE: How old is my Schwinn Bicycle ?
I purchased an old Schwinn Bike ( I think ) at my God Mothers auction. The last time it was licensed was 1963. It has the serial number plate underneath the crank housing and says the model # is 4106X with a serial # of D150055. The crank has a number stamped in it of M568, a New Departure coaster brake and think its called Torrington Stem arms on the front. It has 26" Balloon tire on the back and a Chrome rack on the rear. The handle grips and the seat say Scwhinn but nowhere else on the bike. The chain guard attaches with Hockey Stick style clamps and kinda looks like a feather with ribs.I am in the process of repainting, not restoring, it just to add to my landscaping and am curious as to the actual age of this bike. Any thoughts ?

Grips, seats, ect. are often replacments. If the bike had a serial number plate attached to the frame it is not a Schwinn product. My guess would be Monark.

All pre 48 serial numbers were lost in a factory fire but 8/48 starts with a D so your must be a 47 or48

And using it as garden art--I~d get a bike worth a lot less.---sam
