Posted by: Rif TITLE: AGE / VALUE: J.C. Higgins find; trying to figure age...
Hey all!
I have recently come across a late forties / early fifties J.C. Higgins in minty type original condition. It is a lower end model, no tank, no springer, no rear rack. Due to the condition of the paint, it looks as if these items were never on it.
Skiptooth chain, finned hubs, maroon with cream points and (added by an owner) nicely done turqoise pinstripes.
The info from the underside states:
MOS R
MOD 502-283
257087 (or) 250787 ( i may have transcribed the numbers wrong as there is scribbles in my notes. Hey, I was on my lunch break and in a hurry to get back to work without being late.)
Anyone got any thoughts or ideas concerning this little gem?

Thanks Joel,
I actually did not know that the 502 was the murray code, but will add a note to my archives! I haven~t purchased yet, as I am considering between that higgins and an early fifties Mercury that is barn fresh, but complete.
I~ll grab batteries for my digi, head on down to the LBS hwere they are located, and send pics of both.
Thanks again,
Rif
