ok just looked through my Firestone ads and found the following:
1938 firestones used either a painted or aluminum torpedo light.
1939 several headlights were used on the different models. the nicer bikes seem to have what looks exactly like a "Winner" but they don~t actually call it a "Winner".
1940 the ad actually lists it as a "Winner" in the ad.
thanx.

I have a 1939 Firestone twinflex which has one that doesn~t say winner but looks just like it. the top is attached with a screw, and it has a plastic switch. the ads for Firestone in 1939 show the winner light. I also have a 1954 Huffy Customliner which has a Winner on it. early ones have a square lense the later ones have a round lense.
hope this helps.

I see them listed in the 1939 Wards catalog. I believe the early ones had a small brass knob on the back you turned in to turn on the light. Later they changed to a metal switch underneath and that evolved to a plastic switch.
