Posted by: Sandy TITLE: MISC: A few questions - Help please
I have a two questions that hopefully someone can answer. I found an old ladies Schwinn in my Grandmother~s basement and I am in the process of restoring it. Serial # CC44984, which would make it March 1967. I have no idea the original color, but it has two layers of paint which I am removing now, the top color being tan and under that is red. My first question is: is it possible to tell the model of this bike? I keep reading things like "fastback" etc. It is a single speed with a battery operated headlamp, a horn tank, and a tan and white leather(?) seat with a "S" on it (not a banana seat). I just like to know exactly what I have.
My other question is: How do I get this blasted horn tank off!!??! I don~t want to damage it but it does not want to seem to budge - how does it open/ come off? Am I overlooking a fastener?
Thank you for your help!

We need a picture to determine what model it might be. Also try posting on the Schwinn forum, lots of experts there. http://www.schwinnbike.com/heritage/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4

Thank you for your help. I found the screws once I knew what to look for. They had been puttied in and painted over (i~m assuming for a smoother look) It~s a shame that I will never know the model of the bike - the paint was destroyed long before it came into my hands and all decals and Schwinn paint are lost to the years. If anyone could tell me what the differences were to the models maybe I can figure it out. Thank you

There should be two screws that hold the halves of the horn tank together. It could be an American, Starlet, Hollywood or Fiesta. The model would have been painted on the chainguard.
