Posted by: Mike Walsh TITLE: AGE / VALUE: Fleetwing / Mercury II Bike
I am restoring a bike I recently purchased for $20. The chainguard reads "Mercury II". On the front fork, there is a faded "Fleetwing" lable. The hub is single speed / coaster brake (Komet Super / F.S. J). Any information on the age / value of this bike would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same bike. Completely overhauled and a Shimano Nexus 4 speed installed. Put larger tires on but the rest is original. The brown color of the frame is a real pretty dark chocolat metalic. Nice bike. Nice ride. I know that the bike was made by Murray. I have a Jet Fire X65 Murray that has the same head light and tank. Head light goes past the front head stem tube. Also has the same buck board and paint design. My guess is it~s a 1965 but then that~s why I was checking this out to see what the serial number might tell. Other wise the two bikes are identical. Ones black & gold the other is black and red. The serial numbers are real similar and they both start with M and the 3rd digit is a 5.
