Posted by: Nick Sim TITLE: AGE / VALUE: Dating a Mead Ranger
I was cleaning my shed the other day and dug out a Mead Ranger frame my dad curb-scored a few years ago. It has been re-painted--the only way I could tell the brand was from the headbadge, which my dad sold a while ago. It has double top tubes, the ~suspension~ fork, and rear-facing dropouts. Does anyone have a rough time estimate for this, or, when was the last Ranger made with rear-facing dropouts?
Thanks a bunch

jr, can you document that statement? It is true that many Rangers from the 30s are Schwinn-built. I have been under the impression that until sometime prior to the advent of balloon tires, and before becoming a rebadger, Mead manufactured bikes in Chicago. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Mead primarily sold Schwinn and Columbia bikes. Can~t say without a photo but it sounds like a good one.
